Rustlers sweep Thunder in home opener

The men's volleyball team at Lakeland are off to a strong start after sweeping the Concordia Thunder.

Following their road win on Friday, the Rustlers were sharp in the first set at home this season, winning 25-16 and nearly doubling the Thunder's kill total. Concordia was stronger in the second set, but late in the proceedings aggressive serving and more efficient hitting paved the way to a 25-21 win for Lakeland.

In the third, the home side gained a huge lead early, riding it out to a 25-11 and straight sets victory. The Rustlers had a balanced attack, lead by 12 kills from transfer Vaughn Zimmer, while Gabe Bjorkas added 6 kills and 3 service aces.

Lakeland has a bye weekend, before hosting the King's Eagles on Oct. 27.
