Vikings narrowly fall to impressive Ooks

CAMROSE, AB - In a tight back and forth match, the NAIT Ooks defeated the Augustana Vikings 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17), Sunday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Ooks will officially claim first place in the north division and receive a bye past the quarterfinal round on March 4th.

The Vikings however will have to wait it out to see if they can take the final playoff spot in the north, as they sit just two points ahead of the Concordia Thunder for sixth place. The Thunder have two games remaining on their schedule, wrapping up on February 26th against Lakeland.

Putting up a good fight to start the match, the Vikings played right alongside the league leaders exchanging points throughout the first set, before the Ooks found their rhythm, taking the set, 25-21.

Hoping to even the set score, the Vikings once again stuck with their visitors, not only exchanging points but leads throughout the set. The Ooks, however, showed why they sit in first place, collecting the second set victory, 25-23.

Looking to stay alive, the home side battled to a 14-10 lead, before the Ooks opened the door again for themselves, crawling back to tie the set at 20 points apiece. This time however the Vikings rewrote the story, flipping the page to a 25-23 set win and cutting the Ooks set lead in half.

Not wanting to drop another set and go to a fifth and deciding set, the Ooks took control and didn't look back, taking a huge 22-13 point lead before heading onto a set and match win, 25-17.

Looking ahead, the Ooks will await the winner of the quarterfinal match-up on March 4th, while the Vikings will hope their season will continue into a quarterfinal matchup.
