Lions lunge past Broncos in season finale

The Ambrose University Lions pounced on early opportunities, then held on for a 3-2 victory over the Olds College Broncos at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday, the season finale for both sides.

Player of the game Brady De Castro, Jean-Pierre Guzman and Josh Clarke all scored for the Lions (2-7-1), while Nathan Yeung made four saves for the victory.

Meanwhile, Aminja Abbe and player of the game Dilan Vargas replied for the Broncos (2-5-3), while Gabriel Janik made six saves in defeat.

The Lions leapt out of the gate off the opening kickoff, as De Castro took the pass off the opening kickoff and sent a long shot past Janik to put Ambrose up one less than 10 seconds into the match. Ambrose didn't let up from there, as Clarke broke in and slotted in a shot from just inside the six-yard box to extend the Lions' lead to 2-0 less than two minutes in.

The Broncos cut the deficit in half in the 15th minute as Abbe took a through ball from Lawer Amartey and tapped it past Yeung to get Olds College on the board, only for Guzman to respond in the 21st minute to restore a two-goal advantage for the Lions through halftime.

Vargas pulled the Broncos back within one in the 89th minute, but Olds College would get no closer.
