THUNDER ROLL TO VICTORY BUT VOYAGEURS BATTLE HARD

LAC LA BICHE – Sometimes the scoresheet doesn't tell the whole story – or even a chapter. A simple glance at the box score on the ACAC site – 7-0 Concordia University of Edmonton over the Portage College Voyageurs – gives the impression of a one-sided game. But that was not the case Saturday afternoon at the Bold Center Soccer Field. While the Thunder were full merit for the victory, the game was much closer than the scoreboard reflected. The Voyageurs had numerous scoring opportunities – particularly in the first half – but were unable to find the back of the net.

"The guys played a really strong game," said Head Coach Allan Robertson. "The pressure they put on in the first half was not shown in the score. They were dominating. They just did not finish when they had the ball."

Ahmed Abubaker and Player of the Game Jayden Munguia-Scott each scored twice for the Thunder, who also had contributions from Gabriel Perea, Pepukai Edwin Mapurisa and Hamza Abderemane. Keegan Gauthier-Schaub played a feisty game for the Voyageurs and was named Player of the Game for his squad.

With the Voyageurs' season now concluded, Robertson took a second to commend his players for continuing to work hard during the game and for showing a marked improvement during the second half of the season.

"They were starting to make their passes in this game and kept the ball moving forward all the time," he said. "They played a good game. I'm pretty impressed with them and had a good season with them. I think they all developed as a team."
