LATE GOALS PROPEL EAGLES TO WIN OVER VOYAGEURS

LAC LA BICHE – Now that one hurt.

There are losses, and then there are losses of the heartbreaking kind, the kind that eat away at you for weeks and have you constantly thinking "if only," and "what if this had happened?" The Portage College Voyageurs played one of their strongest games of the season on Sunday at the Bold Center Soccer Field against The King's University Eagles but had nothing to show for it by the time the final whistle sounded.

Up 1-0 on a beautiful goal by Fiston Kiese in the 34th minute, the Voyageurs continued to generate scoring chances and kept the Eagles grounded for most of the game. Even after they went down a man in the 68th minute due to a red card, they continued to play a strong game and hold on to the lead. They were seven tantalizing minutes (plus stoppage time) away from tasting their first victory since the first week of the season – and then the dynamic duo of Razak Mugarwa and Noah Bilodeau went to work. In less than three minutes, Bilodeau set up TKU's Player of the Game Mugarwa for two markers, and the Eagles escaped the snare of defeat and flew away with a 2-1 win.

"We played really well," said Voyageurs' Player of the Game Michael Boucher, who was stellar between the goalposts for Portage.  "It's just that in the ACAC league you can't turn off at any point. If you do that, you'll get punished and that's just all that happened. And then a couple of the goals were a bit unlucky, like with positioning."

After the game, Boucher was focused solely on the scoreboard and not on his individual honour.

"It feels good to have a good game but it doesn't feel good to lose," he said. "It doesn't matter how well I play. It's a team sport."
