Rattlers breeze past Broncos in Olds

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers set the tone with a hot start early, doing all their damage in the first half en route to a 4-1 win over the Olds College Broncos at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.

Felipe Vaalladares, Yosef Teame, Jire Nzeyimana and Joel Lehr all scored for Medicine Hat (2-4-2), while player of the game Maksymilian Slaweta was solid in goal for the victory.

Second-half substitute Sam Lorincz replied for the Broncos (2-4-2), with Gabriel Janik making five saves in goal; Dilan Vargas was Olds College's player of the game.

After Vaalladares got the Rattlers rolling in the 21st minute, Teame curled a free kick off the post and past Janik in the 28th minute to double the Rattlers' advantage. Nzeyimana kept the momentum going three minutes later as a shot from distance from off the wing sailed over Janik's head and in to extend the lead to three. Lehr rounded out the Rattlers scoring in added time with a long-range strike to the top right corner.

Lorincz gave the Broncos some life early in the second half after converting on a free kick in the 48th minute, but Olds College would get no closer.

Medicine Hat College has a bye next week before hosting the SAIT Trojans on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m., while the Broncos will welcome the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings to Olds on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
