VOYAGEURS FIND POSITIVES IN COMPETITVE LOSS TO KEYANO

LAC LA BICHE – The result wasn't what they wanted but at least this time, the voyage was a lot more pleasant. Less than two weeks after getting shellacked in Fort McMurray by the Keyano Huskies 7-0, the Portage College Voyageurs played a much stronger game Friday night at the Bold Center Soccer Field. And while they still lost 4-1 to one of the top teams in the ACAC, the Voyageurs left the field feeling a lot more confident in themselves.

"It was pretty competitive," said Sheldon Close, selected as Portage's Player of the Game. "It was certainly better than last game…I think we did really well this time. Everyone's heads were in it at the start."

The entertaining match featured some great passing plays, some fantastic saves and a few beautiful goals. Keyano's Player of the Game James Bartha notched his fourth and fifth goals of the season, with Joshua Fitzpatrick and Cleisson Anklam adding single tallies for the Huskies. Daniel Hyrsky replied for the Voyageurs with a blast in the 86th minute.

As they try to get back into the win column on Saturday when they take on The King's University Eagles in Edmonton, Close is hoping the Voyageurs will build off the positive vibes from their strong performance against a top-notch Keyano squad.

"We have to make sure that this carries forward to tomorrow," he said
