Rustlers win big to sweep Wolves

The Lakeland Rustlers are first in the North after a pair of victories over the NWP Wolves.

Lakeland played a new starting lineup Sunday afternoon after the narrow 1-0 win on Saturday. Early offesnive pressure lead the Rustlers to several scoring chances, culminating in a successful penalty kick by Ben Siglic. Kristian Korkis also scored in the first half for the home team, while Wolves keeper Evan Doerkson made several spectacular saves to keep the margin within two, including stopping Hani Takheste on a penalty.

In the opening five minutes of the second half, Siglic scored his second of the game and NWP started to show the fatigue of playing their third game in as many days. Yassin Hassen and Ethan Stroud (who won Player of the Game) also scored. Logan Reid got the nod for the Wolves.

The first opportunity to defend first place for the Rustlers comes on Saturday, when they travel to Edmonton to face the Concordia Thunder. Kick off is at 2:00 PM.
