The Broncos leave Red Deer untamed as they defeat the Kings

Red Deer, September 30, 2023 - The Olds College Broncos men's team made it back-to-back on the day as they followed a women's win with a victory of their own against the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings.

After a back-and-forth match that saw goal chances on each side of the pitch, the Broncos would break the deadlock after a goal from winger Aminja Abbe (Sports Management) who came down the wing and fired a shot by goalkeeper Brian Murray (Bachelor of Education). The goal came in the final minute of the half and the Broncos would take a small lead into the locker room.

As the second half started, the Broncos would continue to press the Kings back-line for the insurance goal but the Polytechnic's defensive line and goalkeeper held their own to keep their team within one.

After sitting for the first 45 minutes, striker Jaeden Swartz (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) would come in at half and it paid off for the Kings as he would find the equalizer on a breakaway. Swartz came down off the wing, broke into the middle and finish it past Broncos keeper Cas Blous (Sports Management) for the tying goal.

Olds College would answer back with a beautiful header off the corner to go up 2-1. Winger Sam Lorincz, a second-half substitution, put his head on the ball off the cross from his teammate and it found the mesh to give the Broncos a late lead.

Centre-back Njegos Bajovic (Open Studies) stood over a free-kick opportunity inches away from the 18-yard box but placed it just off the post as they looked to tie it up at two.

But the Broncos would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Midfield Cameron McNeely (Brewery Management) was awarded the player of the match with Bajovic from the Kings being awarded the honour for his team.

The Broncos will take on the SAIT Trojans tomorrow at 2 pm with the Kings next match being next week when they welcome the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The start time for this game is at 4pm.
