Ooks Win at Home on Senior Night

The NAIT Ooks hosted the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings on Friday night at the NAIT Arena. During the pre-game ceremonies, the NAIT Ooks recognized their senior players: captain Brandon Lawson and assistant captain Eric Lacombe. It was a close game, but the Ooks came out on top, winning 4-3.

Both teams had a strong defence in the first period of play between the Ooks and the Vikings, as not many shots were getting to the goalies. Despite the strong defence, both teams had offensive chances denied by Ooks goalie #33 Ryley Osland and #39 Daniel Moody from the Vikings. With 5 minutes left in the period, shots were even at 11. Vikings scored first on the third rebound, with #14 Tavis Roch scoring, assisted by #11 Jack Hamly and #25 Jaxon Georget, with 3 minutes left in the period. About a minute later, the Ooks evened the score, with #15 Ty Whitford scoring and assisted by #7 Brandon Lawson.

The game was tied 1-1 between the Ooks and Vikings at the first intermission.

The Ooks evened the score again, with Yoder scoring his second of the night, assisted by #23 Ethan Leyer and #11 Bryce Osepchuk. The Ooks then got a short-handed goal of their own, with #4 Nick Leyer scoring an outstanding goal on a breakaway to claim the lead. Just over a minute later, on the powerplay, the Vikings evened the score with #20 Ben Stolley scoring.

After forty minutes of play, the game was tied 3-3 between the Ooks and Vikings.

During the third period of play, the game's physicality increased as regulation time dwindled. Ooks #26 Eric Lacombe scored the game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes left. Making his senior night a success with two goals on the evening. The Vikings continued to battle the Ooks, forcing Osland to make some last minute saves. Despite the Vikings' offensive efforts, the Ooks' defence held them back.
