RDP Kings shade SAIT Trojans at home

Red Deer, AB – Red Deer Polytechnic Kings forward Jacob Wozney's three points were the difference against the SAIT Trojans Saturday evening.

The Bachelor of Education Secondary student had two goals and assisted on the game winner, leading the Kings to a 3-2 home decision.

Wozney put the Kings up 1-0, beating Trojans netminder McKenzie Welke at 13:53 of the first period.

At 13:55 of the middle frame, SAIT's Tanner Sidaway evened up the contest 1-1 with a power play marker that eluded Kings goalie Kristian Lyon.

Before the end of the period, Wozney struck again, picking up his 12 goal of the season.

That lead held until mid-way through the third period when Kaden Hanas, SAIT's Player of the Game, tied the contest 2-2.

With 7:23 remaining in the final stanza, Erik Miller recorded his eighth goal and 28th point of the season, providing the Kings a 3-2 edge. Wozney and Sean Michalevich had the assists.

Richmond's Wozney was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.

Lyon (0.944) turned aside 34 shots. Welke (0.912) made 31 saves

SAIT went one-for-four on the power play. The Kings couldn't connect on three opportunities.

The Kings will be back in action on Friday, February 23, when they host the first place Briercrest College Clippers (15-5) at 7 pm.

The fifth-place SAIT (10-10) Trojans will play the Clippers in Saskatchewan on Friday, February 16 at 6 pm.

The top six teams in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Hockey will qualify for the playoffs.
