Ooks Redemption at Home

The NAIT Ooks hosted the Portage College Voyageurs on Saturday night at the NAIT arena. Portage pulled off a huge upset against the Ooks the night prior, so both teams were excited to get back into the action.

After some early physical play by both teams, Bjorn Robinson scored early in the first for the Ooks. His goal was assisted by ____. Despite being a goal down Portage was not dismayed, forcing Ooks goalie Riley Osland to make quality saves throughout the first period.  Portage goalie Alex Brousseau was also exceptional, making various huge saves to keep the Voyageurs within 1. The Ooks also missed out on capitalizing on their powerplay opportunity, which was well defended by the Voyageurs.

The first period ended 1-0 for the NAIT Ooks.

The second period started with more outstanding goaltending from both teams as both Osland and Brousseau made keys saves to keep the game within one goal.  Portage continued to rise to the quality of the higher ranked Ooks as their offensive line continued to press deep in the Ooks end. Just past the halfway point of the period the Ooks were called on a too many men penalty and the Voyageurs were given their first powerplay of the game. Unfortunately, some strong defence from the Ooks kept the game 1-0.  The Ooks also had a powerplay chance to pull a head and once again defensive efforts prevailed as Portage kept the game within one.

The second period ended 1-0 for the Ooks.

The third between the Ooks and the Voyageurs was a battle between the goalies. Ooks scored their second goal of the night with a lucky chance that got by Portage's goalie. The goal was scored by Ooks Kenyon Hyman, assisted by Brandon Lawson and Jackson Hassman. Later in the period Mikal Chalifous of the Voyageurs scored the lone goal for the team, which was assisted by their goalie Brousseau. Despite the beautiful goalie assisted goal for the visiting Voyageurs, the Ooks quickly reclaimed their two-goal lead, with Nick Leyer scoring right off a face-off win by Bryce Osepchuk. In the dying minutes of the half the Voyageurs pulled their goalie. Despite these efforts the Ooks Hunter Lamb scored an empty netter.

The Ooks won the game 4-1.
