South Korea University vs Briercrest Exhibition game

The Briercrest Clippers men's hockey team played host to Korea University in an exhibition hockey game at the Barkman Arena. It was a clean and entertaining hockey game that saw Briercrest emerge with a 5-1 victory.

In the first period, Briercrest would open the scoring 5:04 in when Justin Keck stripped a Korea defenceman of the puck just inside the Korea blueline. Keck broke in alone from the left side and beat Korea goaltender Kyungmin Seo with a shot to the glove side. That would be the only goal of an evenly played period in which each team was able to manage 8 shots on goal. Briercrest controlled play early in the period but Korea pushed back and was able to generate some quality chances later on, particularly on their only powerplay opportunity. Briercrest did a good job defending and collapsing in front of goaltender Mason Briske and staying in the Korea shooting lanes.

In the second period, Austin Arsenault scored early by jumping on a Korea turnover at the Briercrest blueline then driving down the right side of the ice and putting a shot through the goaltender's pads. Briercrest would add to the lead on the powerplay as Zach Thususka scored with assists going to Reagan Poncelet and Jeridyn Loewen. Just seconds after that Korea had a great chance to get on the board as Hyun Soen rushed the puck down the ice but put his shot off the crossbar. Korea plays a skillful puck-possession game and has a lot of speedy players who move the puck well. However, as the game went on Briercrest would start to assert their physical advantage using their size and strength to protect pucks and control play along the boards and making it difficult for Korea to penetrate good scoring areas. Korea's best chances came on the powerplay but Mason Briske was solid in his first start in goal as a Briercrest Clipper. Late in the period, Jake Dale was hauled down on a breakaway while short-handed which resulted in a penalty shot being awarded. Dale made no mistake scoring on a nifty deke on the penalty shot making it 4-0 for Briercrest.

The third period would see Briercrest add another power-play goal as Thususka scored his second of the game from Poncelet and Aikens. Korea was finally able to beat Briske with 1:01 remaining as Yeongkeun Jung scored with assists going to Hungyeom Cho and Hyun Sohn. Briske made 28 saves on 29 shots in the game while Korea netminder Kyungmin Seo stopped 25 of 30 shots. Briske was awarded the Player of the Game for Briercrest while YeongKeun Jung was Player of the Game for Korea. Briercrest finished 2 for 4 on the powerplay while Korea was 0 for 2.
