NAIT Win Second Game of Double Header Weekend

On Saturday afternoon the NAIT Ooks faced off against the Briercrest Clippers in the second game of their double header weekend in Edmonton. After a tight first game the night before, won by the Clippers, both teams were eager to claim a victory.

The clippers came out aggressively on the offensive end, starting the game with 5 quick shots on goal in under 5 minutes. Thankfully for the Ooks, Bidewell in net was up to the task. The first period saw both teams struggle to maintain control and possession. A shot by Justin Keck on the Clippers almost saw Briercrest take the lead but once again goaltending from the Ooks kept the game a draw. An Ooks 2-man powerplay saw the team take the lead on an exceptional shot from Ty Yoder, assisted by Bryce Osepchuk and Drae Gardiner. The Clippers kept a consistent pressure for the rest of the period but were unable to pull even with the Ooks.

The second period started 1-0 for the NAIT Ooks. Despite receiving an early man advantage the Clippers couldn't take the lead from Ooks. Once both teams were even the play was end to end with each team struggling to find the final pass in the offensive third. The Ook's Noah Lamb ensured passing lanes were shut down for the Clippers as the visiting team asked questions of the NAIT defense. On the other end of the ice Dominik Tmej made save after save for the Clippers, keeping them within one of the Ooks. The second period was a battle between the posts as both goalies were outstanding for their respective teams. No goals were scored in the second.

It was another goal tending clinic in the 3rd period as both teams continued to ramp up the offensive pressure. Both Bidewell and Tmej continued to be outstanding, as each shut down clear breakaway goal opportunities. At 2:22 Briercrest called a time out in hopes of finally finding a way to breach the Ooks defense. Once back on the ice they immediately pulled their goalie. Despite the man disadvantage, the Ooks were solid in the final minutes of the game, not allowing the Clippers to find their rhythm. With 8 seconds left the Ooks scored an empty netter making the final score 2-0 for the NAIT Ooks. The final goal was score by NAIT's Eric Lacombe.
