Briercrest Takes Game One of Weekend Doubleheader

On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks' men's hockey team faced off against the visiting Briercrest Clippers in their first game of two this weekend. It was a battle between the top two teams in the league. The Clippers won 5-3 over the Ooks.

The first period of play between the Ooks and Clippers was physical between the two teams. The Clippers were the first to put one in the net, with #14 Zachary Thususka scoring and the assists going to #44 Caleb Grandfield and #3 Campbell Ens. The Ooks worked tirelessly to even up the score, taking many shots on Clippers' goalie, #70 Alex Worthington. While the Clippers were on the powerplay, Ooks' goalie, #29 McCoy Bidewell, made some incredible saves.

 After the first period, the Clippers led 1-0 over the Ooks.

The second period was high-scoring between the Ooks and the Clippers. The Clippers extended their lead with #21 Joshua Lazowski scoring short-handed, assisted by #26 Curtis Wiebe. Just over a minute later, the Ooks scored their first of the night, with #23 Ethan Leyer scoring on the powerplay, assisted by #2 Drae Gardiner and #11 Bryce Osepchuk. The Clippers then scored on the powerplay with #10 Brandon Kelly scoring and the assist going to #11 Reagan Poncelet and #15 Colton Aikens. The Clippers strike again to make the score 4-1 with #26 Curtis Wiebe scoring and the assists going to #29 Justin Keck and #3 Campbell Ens. The Ooks weren't giving up, though, with #11 Bryce Osepchuk scoring, assisted by #8 Jared Brock.

After an electric second period, the Clippers lead 4-2 over the Ooks.

The third period of play between the Ooks and Clippers was a battle with both teams working tirelessly to outplay the other. Just over halfway through the period, the Ooks scored to cut the Clipper's lead down to one. Ooks #4 Nick Leyer scored the third goal unassisted. Near the end of the period, the Clippers scored again with #15 Colton Aikens scoring and the assist went to #7 Jacob Arsenault.

The Clippers won the game 5-3 over the Ooks.
