Ooks Fall To Vikings In Overtime

The NAIT Ooks men's hockey played against the visiting Augustana Vikings on Saturday night. The Vikings won the game 4-3 over the Ooks.

Early into the first period, the Ooks scored on the powerplay with Drae Gardiner putting the puck in the back of the net, assisted by Bryce Osepchuk. Later in the period, the Vikings' got a power play goal of their own to even the score, with Jayven Leslie scoring, assisted by Jack Hamly and Jacob Biensch. With less than a second left in the period, the Vikings took the lead with another powerplay goal, with Lane Kirk scoring, assisted by Tavis Roch and Daylan Marchi. After the first period, the Ooks trailed 1-2 to the Vikings. 

The Ooks tied the game 2-2 less than 5 minutes into the second period, with Osepchuk scoring and Noah Lamb and Ty Yoder assisting. There were a lot of chances for both the Ooks and the Vikings throughout the period. It was a physical game between these teams, as they spent quite a bit in the penalty box. Neither team scored again, leaving the second period tied 2-2 between the Ooks and Vikings. 

During the third period, both teams looked to take the lead. Ooks' Ty Whitford scored on the powerplay assisted by Bjorn Robinson and Noah Lamb. The Vikings responded to the Ooks goal with one of their own to tie the game. Vikings' Conrad Phillips scored, assisted by Lane Kirk. The Ooks and Vikings battled one another to gain possession of the puck. At the end of regulation, the game was tied 3-3 between the Ooks and Vikings, sending the game into overtime. 

During overtime, the Vikings got a power play opportunity seconds into the period. They capitalized on this opportunity with Ben Stollery scoring the game-winner, assisted by Hamly, to win the game 4-3.
