Trojans dethrone the Kings in a 13 goal game

Red Deer, November 10, 2023 - The SAIT Trojans came out on top in a very high-scoring game that saw the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and the Trojans combine for 13 goals.

Forward Chase Haygarth (Business Administration) would give the Kings a great start to their weekend series against the Trojans as he opened the scoring five minutes into the game.

Ten minutes later, the Trojans would find the equalizer as forward Zach Cain (Bachelor of Business Administration) found the back of the net.

But moments later, Haygarth would score his second of the game to regain the Kings lead.

Following a Kings penalty, the Trojans would only need a few seconds on the powerplay to find the equalizer with forward Brett Trentham (Petroleum Engineering Tech) scoring his fifth goal of the season.

At the end of the first period, the Kings were outshooting the Trojans 18-10.

SAIT would open the scoring on the powerplay in the early goings of the second and take their first lead of the game with a goal from forward Kaden Hanas (Bachelor of Business Administration).

Minutes later, the Trojans would double their lead with a breakaway goal scored by forward Zach Cox (Business Administration).

Moments after the Kings killed off a penalty, forward Jaxon Steele (Bachelor of Kinesiology) used the remaining three seconds on the powerplay.

Forward Easton Haygarth (Bachelor of Education) would join his brother on the scoreboard as he scored the Kings fourth goal of the game to tie it up halfway through the second period. He was later named the player of the game for his one goal and one assist performance.

But SAIT would regain their lead as forward Dylan Clark scored the seventh goal in the second period to put his team up 5-4.

The Kings continued to outshoot the Trojans 38-24 following a high-scoring 20 minutes of play.

In the first three minutes of the third period, Trojans forward Connor Nolan (Bachelor of Business Administration) would score his first goal of the season to regain his team's one-goal lead.

The Trojans continued to find the back of the net as forward Ethan Klemen (Business Administration) scored the team's seventh goal on their 30th shot of the game which happened to be the game-winning goal.

A couple of minutes later, forward Dawson Leroux (Bachelor of Business Administration) was able to shovel his own rebound into the back of the net to come within one of the Trojans.

But that was the closest the Kings would get as they fell 7-6.

These two teams will be back at it tomorrow evening in Calgary for a 6:15 pm puck drop.
