Ooks win a shootout and sweep the Kings in hockey action this weekend

Red Deer, November 4, 2023 - After going scoreless last night, the Kings would open the scoring three minutes into the game off a shot out of the slot from forward Jacob Wozney (Bachelor of Education).

On the powerplay, forward Dawson Leroux (Bachelor of Business Administration) would add an insurance marker as he squeaked a shot from the top of the faceoff circle through the legs of goaltender Ryland Osland (Business Administration).

The Kings would take this 2-0 lead into the second period while outshooting the Ooks 20-10 in the opening frame.

But in the early goings of the second, forward Ethan Leyer (Bachelor of Business Administration) would cut the Kings lead in half which would do it for the scoring the middle frame.

The Polytechnic would continue to outshoot the Ooks at the end of the second with the total being 32-27.

It was very much looking like the Kings were going to walk away with a bounce-back 2-1 victory but with 11 seconds the Ooks would capitalize and tie the game up.

NAIT would call a timeout with 19 seconds left to set up a play and it paid off as they crashed the net and forward Bjorn Robinson (Bachelor of Business Administration) shoveled the puck past the goal line to force overtime.

Overtime solved nothing so the game needed a shootout. The game was solved in the first round with NAIT scoring and the Kings getting stopped.

With a total of 75 shots in the game, both goaltenders, Ryland Osland and Evan Fradette (Open Studies) were awarded the player of the game.

The Kings will be back in action next weekend when they host the SAIT Trojans while the Ooks will host the Portage College Voyageurs. Both games will be on Friday at 7 pm.

Players of the game: Ryland Osland (Ooks) and Evan Fradette (Kings)
