Leslie overtime goal gives Vikings the weekend sweep

CAMROSE, AB - Needing extra time, the University of Alberta - Augustana Viking claimed a 6-5 overtime win over the reigning ACAC Champions RDP Kings, Saturday night at Encana Arena.

The win gives the Viking the weekend home-and-home series sweep to start their 2023-24 season campaign off 2-0-0, while the Kings start with two losses.

Rookie Chase Leslie was the evenings hero scoring the game winner in overtime, his third netter of the night, Tanner Manz added two to the board while Lane Kirk notched one. Rhett Rook had 31 saves in the win.

Across the ice, the Kings found offence from five different players including Deegan Mofford, Tanner Sklaruk, Brennan Davis, Nolan Doel, and Ryland Minnoch. Kristin Lyon had 41 saves.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the final 40 minutes, the Vikings put three in the back of the net to take the lead thanks to Kirk's goal. However, the Kings tied it up with minutes remaining. The effort would result in no difference in the outcome with the Viking claiming victory.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will take on SAIT Trojans in a home-and-home while the Kings will go head-to-head with the Concordia Thunder.
