Ooks Take Home Opener

On Saturday, October 14, the NAIT Ooks men's hockey team had their home opener against the SAIT Trojans. The Ooks took home the victory with a 7-3 win.

In the first period between the Trojans and the Ooks, there was a lot of back and forth. The Ooks started strong by peppering shots on the Trojans goalie, Andrew MacClean. The Trojans were the first to put the puck in the back of the net, with Zach Cox scoring and the assist going to Dylan Clark. The Ooks evened up the score just after the halfway point, with Brandon Lawson scoring and the assist going to Garin Butler. Ooks goalie Ryley Osland robbed the Trojans of scoring a second goal by making an impressive save. The Ooks then took the lead over the Trojans, with Morgan Poirier scoring the second goal with Bjorn Robinson assisting. The Ooks led 2-1 after the first period.

The Ooks had a two-man advantage early in the period but didn't capitalize on the opportunity, with MacLean making solid saves. The Trojans tied the game up with Brandon Machado scoring off a rebound, and the assists went to Clark and Zach Huber. The Ooks Jackson Hassman passed to Ethan Leyer behind the net and then passed the puck out front to Garin Butler for the Ooks to claim a 3-2 lead. Seconds after the Ooks power play began, Bjorn Robinson put the puck in the net to give the Ooks a 2-goal lead, with the assist going to Brandon Lawson. Ooks finish the second with a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, the Ooks and Trojans game was aggressive, with numerous players visiting the penalty box. The Ooks scored their fifth goal of the night, with Hunter Lamb scoring and the assists going to Bryce Osepchuk and Noah Lamb. Ooks Lacombe scored the sixth goal with assists from Cale Lyons and Bjorn Robinson. The Trojans weren't done yet as Clark put one in the net with the assist going to Cox. Ooks Ethan Leyer scores a breakaway goal to give his team a 7-3 lead.

The players of the game were number 9, Bjorn Robinson from the Ooks and number 30, Andrew MacLean from the Trojans.
