SAIT defeats MHC

Calgary, AB - Saturday, Jan. 27: MHC Rattlers 82  at SAIT Trojans 100

 

The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team faced off against the MHC Rattlers on Saturday, winning a hard fought battle by a final score of 100-82 to improve their record to 13-3. After the loss, the Rattlers sit at 3-13.

 

Akoi Yuot led SAIT with 30 points on 12-21 shooting (6-10 from three), followed by Marcus Masters who finished with 20 points, five rebounds and three steals. Every Trojan who hit the court scored at least a point for SAIT.

 

The first quarter was tight, as both teams shot well and neither defense could get much momentum going. Jordan Biggar led the way for the Rattlers, scoring eight of his team high 29 points to help MHC gain a 22-19 lead after one.

 

But SAIT had a great second quarter, scoring 25 points and holding MHC to 16. Akoi Yuot dominated the frame, scoring 12 points on 5-10 shooting. Will Tong added 6 off the bench as SAIT took a 44-38 lead into halftime.

 

Marcus Masters and Akoi Yuot won the game for the Trojans in the third, combining for 21 of SAIT's 33 points in the quarter and helping the defense give up just 22. The Trojans kept up the hot shooting, going 12-19 from the field and 6-11 from three in the frame. Heading to the fourth, SAIT led by 17.

 

Jordan Biggar added another nine for the Rattlers in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn't enough as SAIT came away with the 100-82 victory.

 

The Trojans will play two games against the 10-5 Lethbridge Kodiaks this weekend, looking to catch first place in the conference.

 

MHC will head to Ambrose University to take on the Lions on Friday.
