Back to back tight losses for Rustlers

Lakeland battled once again, but found themselves on the losing against the Keyano Huskies.

Following a contenious game Friday evening, where the Rustlers fell by a single point, the home team got off to a hot start Saturday afternoon, leading 20-14 after the first quarter. However, the Huskies quickly came back with sharpshooting from beyond the arc and several baskets from big man Evan Meyer, gaining a five-point lead at half.

The second half was a series of counter punches from each team, with the Rustlers scoring, but Keyano bouncing right back. Just when it looked like Keyano had the game in hand, Lakeland would continually pull within two possessions. A couple of key misses late, with Keyano coverting, lead to Lakeland losing 84-91.

Baha Salma won Player of the Game with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, while Andre McFadden had a game high 23 pointsoff the bench. Meyer lead the Huskies with 21.

The two losses drop the Rustlers five games back of Keyano for first in the ACAC North. This weekend is rare bye for the program, before they head out on the road for two weeks, starting with the NWP Wolves in Grande Prairie on Feb. 2.
