SAIT defeats Ambrose

Calgary, Alta. – Saturday, Jan. 13: Ambrose University Lions 81 at SAIT Trojans 108

 

The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team improved to 10-2 with a dominating win over the Ambrose University Lions on Saturday. The Trojans have now won three straight after back-to-back wins over the Lions this weekend.

Akoi Yuot scored a team high 22 for SAIT, while also leading the team with nine rebounds. Marcus Masters added 18 and six assists, and Will Tong shot 8-11 for 17 points.

Ambrose jumped out to a 29-19 lead after one, as the Trojans hit just seven shots in the first ten minutes. The Lions hit 11 of their 21 shots in the quarter, with four players scoring at least five points.

But SAIT controlled play for the rest of the game, outscoring the Lions by 38 in the second and third. They exploded for 34 in the second, led by Akoi Yuot and Marcus Masters who both scored 9, and Will Tong's 8. The team shot 58% in the frame and held the Lions to just 36% from the field.

They kept rolling in the third, with a game high 37 points. Akoi Yuot led the way with 11 as the team shot a scorching 7-9 from three point range. Heading into the fourth, the Trojans led 90-62.

The final frame was close, but it didn't matter as SAIT defended home court with the 108-81 win.

The Trojans will play two massive games next weekend, facing off against the 12-1 St. Mary's University Lightning with a chance to take first place.

Ambrose will head to Old's College on Friday before hosting them Saturday.
