Broncos burst into 2024 with win over Rattlers

The Olds College Broncos started out 2024 on a strong note, outlasting the Medicine Hat College Rattlers 96-84 at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Isaiah White led all scorers with 31 points and seven rebounds for the Broncos (4-7), while Peter Adonri posted 15 points, seven assists and three rebounds, and Logan Bennett added 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds off the bench. The victory also made a winner out of Zac Overwater in his debut as the interim head coach of the Broncos.

Fred Kabore and Cooper Ward each had 19 points and six rebounds for the Rattlers (1-10), who saw all their starters reach double figures in points, with Ethan Robinson adding 17 points, three assists and three rebounds.

The first quarter was evenly contested on both sides as the Broncos pulled out a 24-20 lead through 10 minutes, then grew the advantage to 52-44 at halftime. However, the Rattlers battled back to within a point in the third quarter before the Broncos eventually took a 74-70 lead into the final frame.

The Broncos and Rattlers will battle again tomorrow in Olds at 3 p.m.; the game will be available on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
