RDP Kings offence explodes in win over TKU Eagles

Red Deer, November 18, 2023 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings exploded for a total of 116 points in their victory against The Kings University Eagles on Saturday night.

Following some great shooting from the Kings to open up this matchup with the Eagles, RDP jumped out to a 14-point lead with two minutes left to go in the quarter which led to a TKU timeout.  Before the quarter ended, the Polytechnic extended their lead to 20 points and finished the first 10 minutes up 37-17.

Despite an effort to crawl back into the game with a couple of early three-pointers, the Eagles found themselves facing a 21-point deficit as they went into the second half with the Kings up 56-35.

Eagles guard Josh Povhe (Bachelor of Arts in English) led both teams with 13 points at the half while guard Bernardo Moller (Business Certificate) finished with 10 points to lead the Kings after the first two quarters.

It was a very close third quarter with the Eagles having their best offensive ten minutes as they dropped 25 points but allowed RDP to score 27 which extended the Kings lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Kings used a 33-point fourth quarter to walk away with a 116-83 victory over the Eagles. 

The players of the game were awarded to Eagles Josh Povhe and Kings Bernardo Moller. Povhe finished with 17 points and an impressive 17 rebounds while Moller finished with 20 points.

Eagles guard Cornelius Mingo Jr. (Bachelor of Arts) had a game-high 26 points in the loss with RDP guard Tyrique Walters (Open Studies) finishing with a team-high 21 points.

The Kings will clash with the Olds College Broncos on Friday in Olds with the Eagles heading out on the road next weekend for two games against the Keyano College Huskies.
