Olds at SAIT

Calgary, Alta. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023: Olds College Broncos 58 at SAIT Trojans 73

The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team won again on Saturday, beating the Olds College Broncos at home by a score of 73-58. The Trojans now own a five-game winning streak after their opening night loss, giving them a 5-1 record on the season.

SAIT came out red hot, scoring 28 points in the first led by #6 Amon Walker's seven in the quarter. The Trojans also played suffocating defence, which they did all game, and held Olds to just 16 on sub-40% shooting.

The second quarter was much of the same for SAIT's defence. They swarmed the ball, pressuring the Broncos every chance they got. The constant pressure forced turnovers and bad shots from Olds, resulting in just 11 second quarter points from the Broncos. SAIT added 17 of their own and took a 45-27 lead into halftime.

#8 Tutu Akol scored 10 straight points for the Trojans in the third, giving them half their team total in the quarter. They continued to play tough defence, and with Olds in a lot of foul trouble, held them to 15. Going in to the fourth, SAIT led 65-42.

The Trojans seemed to let their foot off the pedal a bit in the fourth, scoring just eight points, but they had banked such a large lead it didn't matter. Olds outscored them 16-8 in the final 10 minutes, but SAIT still came away with the decisive 73-58 win.

SAIT will try to up the winning streak to six when they play at Northwestern Polytechnic against the Wolves next Friday.
