Men's Basketball Huskies outlast Clippers for another close win

Fort McMurray, Alta. (November 4, 2023) - Briercrest College Clippers 89 Keyano Huskies 91

The Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team once again found themselves on the winning side of a close game as they held on to defeat their opponents, the Briercrest College Clippers, by a 91-89 final Saturday night.  

After building a 13-point lead through one quarter, the Huskies saw that lead evaporate as the Clippers cut the deficit to two points at half time. Taking over the lead in the third quarter, the Huskies found a way to swing back momentum in their favour for the two-point win. 

Evan Meyer led the Huskies with 20 points in the contest, edging out a 19-point performance from Omeechi Williams for the team lead. DJ Haynes also came close with 17 of his own. Nahshon Hurst rounded out a quartet of Huskies in double-digits with 11 points on the day. 

A pair of Clippers led the way in scoring for both sides individually as Jude Shepherd-Hills scored 30 and Oroma Bongomin added 24. 

The Huskies shot 48.6 percent (35-for-72) from the field, making six three-point shots and 15 of 16 free throws. The Clippers shot 47.7 percent (31-for-65) from the field, making 12 three-point shots and adding 15 free throws on 18 attempts. 

The Huskies will now enjoy a bye week before making their first venture of the season to the South Division, facing off against the Ambrose University Lions and Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The Clippers will return to ACAC action on November 17, welcoming the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings to Caronport, Sask.
