The Kings tame the Wolves on Friday night

Red Deer, November 3, 2023 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings used a huge third quarter to defeat the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Friday night.

In a very high-scoring opening 10 minutes, the Kings found themselves taking a small 21-13 lead into the second quarter with guard Efe Iyamu (Open Studies) dropping over a third of his team's points in the quarter.

Down 27-25 in the second, the Wolves had multiple opportunities to tie the game up in the same possession but could not get the ball to drop. Moments later, the game was tied at 27 after forward Manny Iloka (Business Administration) capitalized on both of his free throw opportunities. Despite being outscored in the second, the Kings led the Wolves 35-33. Iyamu continued to lead his team with 13 points while on the other side of the court, the Wolves were led by guard Tony Kibonge (Bachelor of Kinesiology) who had eight points at the half.

After being outscored in the second, the Kings bounced back for a much better third quarter as they outscored the Wolves by 20 points to take a 73-51 lead into the final quarter.

RDP would not look back after taking this massive lead into the final 10 minutes of the game to defeat Northwestern 84-62 in what was a very low-scoring quarter that just saw 22 points dropped combined between both teams.

The players of the game were awarded to Wolves Manny Iloka and Kings Eduardo Crespo. Iloka had 15 rebounds and 12 points while Crespo in his return to the hard court had 17 points and six rebounds.

The Wolves will be back in action as they head down to Olds to take on the Broncos while the Kings will host the NAIT Ooks tomorrow evening with a tip-off at 8 pm.
