Trojans tame Broncos in Olds

The SAIT Trojans turned in a championship-calibre performance, as the defending CCAA champions knocked off the Olds College Broncos 106-71 at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Kuol Kuol paced the attack for SAIT (2-1) with 30 points and seven rebounds, while James Owolabi added 14 points, three rebounds and three steals, and Will Tong chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Olds College (0-3) was led by Logan Bennett and his 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Gurech Gurech and Kenny Bates each added 11.

The Broncos got out to a fast start with an 8-2 lead in the opening 2:18 of the first quarter, only for the Trojans to settle in the rest of the way and open up a 25-16 lead going into the second, with Kuol accounting for 13 points in the frame.

Though the Broncos tried to claw back, SAIT further asserted its dominance late in the second quarter, with a closing 9-0 run giving them a 50-28 lead at halftime.

SAIT essentially matched Olds College step for step in the third to take a 71-51 lead into the fourth, where the Trojans definitively pulled away.

The Trojans welcome The King's University Eagles to Calgary on November 3 at 8 p.m., while the Broncos will host the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on November 4 at 3 p.m.

Both matchups will be available to stream on ACACTV.ca, or on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
