Men's Basketball Huskies sweep Vikings with 34-point margin of victory

Fort McMurray, Alta. (October 21, 2023) - Augustana Vikings 69 Keyano Huskies 103

The Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team didn't need overtime Saturday, securing a 103-69 win against the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Omeechi Williams came close to matching his best single-game performance with 27 points, adding nine rebounds, and six assists. DJ Haynes and Nahshon Hurst each dropped 18 on their opposition while Tafari Carefoote-Jones rounded out a quartet of Huskies in double digits on the day. 

Leading by eight after one quarter and 19 at the half, the Huskies continued to build their lead with a 53-point second half that grew the lead by another 14 points. 

Ben Simmons and Keenan Miller each added seven off the bench. Overall, the Huskies shot 40-for-73 from the field (54.8%), making 11 three-point shots on 24 attempts. They also shot 80% (12-for-15) from the free throw line.

Countering for the Vikings was Tanton Mueller, who had a team-leading 15 points, one ahead of Jonathan Gomes and two ahead of Ryan Degner with that trio being the only ones in double digits for the Vikings on Saturday. 

The Vikings shot 19-for-58 from the field, making six three-points shot on 21 attempts. They added 25 points through free throws throughout the game. 

Up next for the Huskies is their first regular season road trip to Edmonton, which will see them clash with the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder for a pair of matches.
