Ooks Take Home Opener Against Thunder

The NAIT Ooks took on the Concordia Thunder in their home opener on Saturday night at the NAIT gymnasium.

In the first quarter, both teams defence was excelling at keeping the other out of the key; however the Ooks managed to take the lead with outside shots from number one Griffin Lorenz. At the end of the quater the Thunder's offence was able to break through the Ooks' defence to take the lead.

Thunder led the game 14-13 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Thunder quickly created a gap with great outside shots from number thirteen O'Ryan Wallace. The Ooks, looking to switch the momentum, called a timeout. Ooks slowly began to break through the Thunder's defence with some great three-point shots from number eleven Kohl Wedman. Nonetheless, the Thunder were able to maintain their lead.

Thunder led the game 34-27 after the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Ooks' offence was very quickly closing the gap with nice drives from number nine Yassir Abdullahi. However, the Ooks' defense continued to struggle to defend against the Thunder and its strong offence and inside drives from number eighteen Kyler Dutka.

Thunder led the game 53-51 after the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Ooks managed to take the lead with a three-point shot from number nine Yassir Abdullahi. Neither team could hold the lead long, trading point for point. However, the Ooks were able to break away from the Thunder.

Ooks won the game 72-70

Players of the game were Ooks number seven Griffin Lorenz and Thunder number thirteen O'Ryan Wallace.
