Despite a history of comebacks, Lakeland men's basketball couldn't overcome multiple large deficits Friday night.
The Rustlers opened their season against the Concordia Thunder, a team looking to be in the playoff picture in the North Division. Early on, the home team had a tough time shooting the ball, scoring only 13 poitns in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd, Lakeland essentially reversed the scoring output from the 1st, leading 36-35 at halftime.
Offensive struggles returned in the 3rd, with Concordia outscoring the Rustlers 25-11. When the game looked out of reach with six minutes remaining in the final quarter, Lakeland get to within 6, however, the Thunder extended their lead again and didn't look back in the 82-63 win.
Nick Gibb and Chance Samuel were the POG's.
The teams will face off again Saturday night in Edmonton.
