Huskies use dominant second half to take down Broncos

The Keyano College Huskies flexed their muscles in the second half, blowing the game wide open en route to a 106-57 win over the Olds College Broncos at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Sean-Michael Clancy led all scorers with 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals, while DJ Haynes added 17 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Omeechi Williams also posted 16 points and four rebounds for the Huskies (8-0), who shot 51.9 per cent from the field.

For the Broncos (1-7), Andre Fields paced the team with 21 points and three rebounds, while Keunte Howard added 15 points and five rebounds.

Turnovers played a significant role in the outcome, with the Huskies converting 30 Broncos turnovers into 41 points compared to eight for the Broncos off 12 Keyano turnovers.

The Huskies jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first, only for the Broncos to respond with an 8-0 run to go up 10-7. However, Keyano would then assert itself later in the quarter, ending the frame with a 23-19 lead.

Olds College got an early jump in the second with an 8-0 run that put them up 27-25, only for the Huskies to again seize momentum to stretch out a 42-36 heading into halftime.

From there, Keyano College boosted their credentials as the CCAA's #3-ranked team, extending its lead to double digits before finding another gear, putting up a 26-0 run over a span of 8:27 encompassing both the third and fourth quarters to put the game well out of reach at 72-43 through the end of the third.

Both the Huskies and Broncos finish the first half of their season on the road, with Keyano battling NAIT in Edmonton and Olds College heading south to face Medicine Hat.
