Big Third Quarter Leads Thunder Past Kings

EDMONTON, AB (November 5, 2021) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder wrapped up the home half of their exhibition schedule Friday night as they welcomed the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) King's. After a back and forth first quarter, the Thunder took over and never looked back as they took this one 88-73.

The first quarter opened with both teams exchanging baskets and leads early on. After going back and forth all period, the Thunder were to score the last bucket of the period as they took a 20-18 lead to end the quarter. The second quarter was a different story as the Thunder defensive efforts started to take control of the game as their lead started to expand. Behind eight points from #2 Nick Gibb, the Thunder took a 45-37 lead into the half. The Thunder used their defensive efforts in the third quarter to further extend their lead, outscoring the King's 19-11 in the quarter to give them a 64-48 lead through three periods. RDP was able to push back in the fourth quarter but couldn't chip into the Thunder lead as the Concordia defensive effort was too much. A 19-point effort from Nick Gibb gave the Thunder the 88-73 win.

After the game, Thunder head coach Reagan Wood commented on his team's win: "we took steps in the right direction today, but there is still a lot to improve on. I'm glad to see a scoring balance and improved defensive effort tonight."

The Thunder wrap up their exhibition schedule tomorrow as they visit the NAIT Ooks. Their regular season kicks off next weekend as they welcome the Lakeland College Rustlers on Saturday.
