2023 ACAC Golf Championship - Day One Recap

RED DEER, AB -  The weather was mild, with a warm fall sun shining in the chilly air at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer, Alberta. A slight breeze started blowing as the day went on, setting the stage for a thrilling day of golf at the ACAC Golf Championships. As the tournament unfolded, the individual and team results showcased the talent and competitive spirit on display.


In the mens individual category, Michael Valk from Medicine Hat College (MHC) emerged as the top performer, carding an impressive score of 70. In a closely contested battle for second place, Riley Higdon from Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) and Jadan Patel from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) both recorded scores of 73, resulting in a well-deserved tie for the runner-up position.

On the womens side, Ella Gifford of CUE delivered a stellar performance, securing the first-place finish with a score of 76. Libby Bourassa from MHC claimed the second spot with a score of 86, while Lyric Lewis from Portage College (PC) secured third place with a score of 88.


In the mens team competition, the SAIT Trojans led the way, finishing the day with a collective score of +10. Their impressive performance positioned them as the team to beat heading into the second day of competition.

On the womens side, it was the Concordia Thunder who seized the initiative, leading the competition with a collective score of +28 after the first round. With strong performances from their players, they were setting their sights on clinching the Women's Team title.

As the ACAC Golf Championships continued at the picturesque Alberta Springs Golf Resort, the competitors were eager to build on their initial successes and face the upcoming days of competition. The tournament promised more exceptional golf as these talented athletes vied for individual and team glory on the fairways of Red Deer, Alberta.
