Badminton Tournament #2

Calgary, AB (January 21st, 2024) - The SAIT Trojans hosted the second tournament of the year, the first held in their temporary gym facility in Calgary, AB. Players from Concordia (CUE), NAIT, King's University (TKU) and SAIT competed for the top spot in Mens' Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles & Mixed Doubles. The tournament was an exciting display of coordination, focus & athleticism.

On the men's side, NAIT's Smit Patel came out on top after defeating TKU's Mahdi Ahmadi, winning 2 of 3 sets, in the gold medal match. The podium was completed by NAIT's Anirudh Sharma in 3rd place, so claimed the medal over SAIT's Sanskar Chopra who finished in 4th place.

On the women's side Jasleen Kaur (CUE) was dominant all day and came out on top, claiming first place. TKU's Abigail Ledda claimed 2nd place & Cecilia Wolski (TKU) took 3rd place after SAIT's Alia Quesnelle retired from the battle after the first set.

Men's Doubles saw 7 teams battle it out for the podium, with SAIT's Chiu & Ouano taking the top step, with a 21-11, 21-15 win over NAIT's Patel & Wong. Third place was captured by CUE's Motel & Su, after taking SAIT's second team in the battle for 3-4.

Women's doubles saw 5 teams compete in a round robin tournament, with NAIT's (Pandit/Tran) taking a top spot with a spotless 4-0 record. Second place went to TKU's Ledda/Wolski who went 3-1, with their teammates Basque/Vaniya (TKU) taking 3rd place. SAIT's teams took 4th & 5th spots.

And finally, in the mixed doubles tournament, 16 teams took to the courts, with CUE's Motel & Kaur reigning supreme. TKU's team of Ahmadi & Vaniya took the silver medal and NAIT's team of Wong & Pandit beat out SAIT's Ouano & Borromeo for bronze.

Currently SAIT sits at the top of the ACAC overall team event with 321 point, NAIT is not far behind with 278 & only 7 points behind is TKU with 271. The next badminton tournament will be at The King's University on February 4th, followed by ACAC Championships at NAIT, February 17th & 28th.
