ACAC Hall of Fame Team Inductee: NAIT Ooks Men's Hockey

HONOURED TEAM INDUCTEE
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is thrilled to announce the NAIT Ooks Men's Hockey team as a 2024 inductee into the ACAC Hall of Fame in the Team category.

The 1983-84 NAIT Ooks achieved a historic milestone as the first hockey team in the nation and the inaugural ACAC team in any sport to receive five CCAA individual awards. The subsequent season, the 1984-85 NAIT Ooks replicated this feat, securing another five CCAA individual awards and earning eight ACAC all-conference selections, with five players on the first team and three on the second team. Their remarkable achievement of nine all-conference selections in one season remains unparalleled in ACAC history for men's or women's hockey.

From the fall of 1983 through the spring of 1987, the team showcased a remarkable consistency, with 17 different players accumulating an unprecedented 23 ACAC all-conference selections. This remarkable four-season streak of success, averaging 5.75 selections per season, holds the record for the highest average among men's or women's hockey teams to clinch at least three consecutive ACAC titles.

The legacy of the 1983-84 to 1986-87 NAIT Ooks continued with three conference record-winning streaks and an outstanding overall performance. Their 42 regular-season game winning streak, part of a 52-game streak covering regular season and postseason action against ACAC rivals, remains an unmatched achievement. With 119 wins, 14 losses, and one tie over the four seasons in regular season and postseason play, the Ooks demonstrated an unparalleled level of dominance in ACAC men's and women's hockey history. The team's excellence extended to the CCAA National Hockey Championships, where they claimed the most national titles (2) and the highest winning percentage (.769) among teams competing in at least four consecutive CCAA National Hockey Championships as conference champions.

The team's remarkable achievements are further acknowledged by inductions into the NAIT Wall of Fame, Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame, and Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and now their well-deserved place in the prestigious ACAC Hall of Fame.
