HONOURED COACH INDUCTEE

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is thrilled to announce Mike Havey of the Medicine Hat Rattlers as a 2024 inductee into the ACAC Hall of Fame in the Coach category.

Serving as the Head Coach from 1985 to 1991, Mike Havey achieved significant recognition, earning the ACAC Coach of the Year award for the 1987-1988 season and securing a remarkable double win with both the ACAC Coach of the Year and the CCAA Coaching Excellence Award in the 1989-1990 season.

Mike Havey's coaching legacy is punctuated by notable achievements, including a team record of 39-27 based on ACAC records available from 1987 onwards. During his tenure, he cultivated two All-Canadian players in the 1987-88 and 1989-90 seasons, showcasing his ability to nurture individual talent within the team framework.

Beyond the basketball court, Havey took on the role of Athletic Director concurrently with his coaching responsibilities, demonstrating his commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes. Additionally, his contributions extended to administrative roles within the ACAC, serving as the Vice President from 1987 to 1991 and taking on Sport Convenor responsibilities for Basketball, Bowling, and Golf during the 1987-88 season, further highlighting his multifaceted contributions to collegiate sports in Alberta.

He later expanded his impact beyond Medicine Hat College and the ACAC, becoming the Head Coach of Men’s Basketball at the University of Windsor, eventually transitioning into the role of Athletic Director. Recently retiring, Mike Havey's well-rounded impact, both on and off the court, cements his place in the ACAC Hall of Fame and leaves an enduring legacy within the realm of Men’s Basketball.
