2023-2024 ACAC Men's Overall Athlete of the Year

Edmonton, AB (April 5, 2024) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Mahdi Ahmadi of The King’s University Eagles as the 2023-2024 ACAC Overall Men's Athlete of the Year.

In being named as both the ACAC Male Athlete of the Year and ACAC Male Rookie of the Year, The King’s University recognizes what a momentous achievement this is for their university athletics program, and are very proud of Mahdi’s achievements as an athlete and specifically his accomplishments in the sport of Badminton. 

Mahdi’s presence on the court is marked by his exceptional stamina and confidence, allowing him to dictate the pace of play and compete effectively against any opponent. Moreover, his extensive experience along with his court intelligence and awareness, allows him to consistently make strategic plays and capitalize on opportunities. During practice sessions, Mahdi’s commitment to excellence is evident in the way he goes above and beyond, always looking for ways to continue to improve. His dedication and passion for badminton make him a natural leader for his teammates, inspiring them with his relentless work ethic and love for the game.

Mahdi’s addition to the King's ‘Eagles’ has been invaluable, bringing with him years of experience gained from competing in numerous high-level tournaments in Iran and Vancouver, where he spent several years before coming to King’s in Edmonton. His achievements, include being selected to train with the national team in Iran and earning recognition as the best under-23 badminton player in BC for Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles in 2023. Most recently, Mahdi was also named as the 2024 CCAA Badminton Male Player of the Year.

All of these accomplishments highlight Mahdi’s exceptional talent and dedication to the sport of Badminton, recognizing that this is just the beginning of his promising journey!
