2024 ACAC Men's Basketball Players of the Year

Edmonton, AB (February 29, 2024) – 

North Male Player of the Year | Omeechi Williams | Keyano Huskies:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Omeechi Williams of the Keyano College Huskies has been selected as the 2023-2024 ACAC Men’s Basketball North Division Player of the Year.

Williams was the main offensive star for a Men’s Basketball Huskies team that retained their position atop the ACAC’s North Division for a fourth-straight season with a 17-3 regular season record. Williams average 20.1 points per game, adding in 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.6 assists on a per game basis.

He was one of five student-athletes in the entire conference to surpass 400 points scored this season. Reaching double digits in every game this season, Williams recorded a season-high 28 points on October 28 against the Concordia Thunder and finished with nine games of 20 points or more.

“When he got here three years ago, I knew right away that we had a special talent,” Huskies Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. “I know some other schools passed up on their opportunity to have him and I thought we got real lucky with a gem in the rough."

“He’s really put in the work over the last three years and his roles continue to grow each and every year. He’s really stepped up this year and leading us in a different way than other guys have in the past.”

Williams’ victory marks three-straight seasons in which a student-athlete from the Men’s Basketball Huskies has been recognized as the ACAC Men’s Basketball North Division Player of the Year following back-to-back victories from Sean-Michael Clancey.

In his third year of eligibility, the Hamilton, Ont. product is studying Business Management (Human Resources) at Keyano College. Williams has been named to the ACAC’s North Division All-Conference team three times, earning back-to-back First Team All-Conference recognition in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He was named the ACAC Rookie of the Year in the 2021-22 ACAC Regular Season. He’s the second-ever student-athlete of the Keyano Huskies to be recognized as the Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year, and as a member of an All-Conference team following Men’s Volleyball student-athlete João Cunha.

Across 56 ACAC Regular Season games, Williams has averaged 16.7 points per game, shooting 46.4% (304-for-655) from the field, and making 36.5% (130-for-356) of his three-point shots.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2024 ACAC Men’s Basketball Championship hosted by Keyano College in Fort McMurray, AB. The Player of the Year award is proudly sponsored by Basketball Alberta.


South Male Player of the Year | Caleb Jipp | St. Mary's Lightning:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Caleb Jipp of the St. Mary's Lightning has been selected as the 2023-2024 ACAC Men’s Basketball South Player of the Year.

Caleb Jipp has had an electrifying 2023-2024 season for the St. Mary’s Lightning, leading not only the ACAC but also the entire CCAA in scoring with an impressive 25.7 points per game. Additionally, he topped the ACAC in steals and ranked second in free throws.

Beyond his stellar stats, Caleb has been a delight to watch all season long. Crafty, creative, and a deadly long-range shooter, he consistently plays with a big smile on his face, showcasing his love for the game. Under his leadership, the Lightning secured their first-ever 1st place finish in the ACAC South Division. Caleb’s journey is truly inspirational. Standing at just 5’11 with a slight frame, many other schools overlooked him during recruitment. However, he has surpassed all expectations by developing both his mental and physical skills to an exceptional level.

Caleb was named the ACAC athlete of the week for November 17-18 and the CCAA athlete of the week for February 9-10.

A fourth-year psychology student from Calgary, AB, Caleb is happily married to Madi, whose enthusiastic cheers can be heard during all of our broadcasts.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2024 ACAC Men’s Basketball Championship hosted by Keyano College in Fort McMurray, AB. The Player of the Year award is proudly sponsored by Basketball Alberta.
