2024 ACAC Curling Rookies of the Year

Edmonton, AB (February 26, 2024) – 

Female Curling Rookie of the Year | Brenna Bilassy | Concordia Thunder:

In an impressive debut season, Brenna Bilassy of the Concordia Thunder has been named the 2023-24 ACAC Women’s Curling Rookie of the Year, a well-deserved recognition for her outstanding contributions to the team.

Bilassy's remarkable performance throughout the season showcased her skill and determination. During Regionals #1 at Lakeland College, the women's curling team completed the weekend with an undefeated record of 6-0. This winning streak continued at Regionals #2 hosted by NAIT, with another perfect 6-0 record. The team's success reached its peak at the ACAC Championships held at SAIT Polytechnic, where they maintained a 3-0 record. Bilassy's leadership guided the team to the gold medal match against the formidable SAIT Trojans, resulting in a hard-fought Silver medal. The impressive journey doesn't end there, as Bilassy and her team are now set to compete in the upcoming CCAA National Championships in Fredricton, NB.

Hailing from Edmonton, Brenna Bilassy has not only made a name for herself on the curling rink but also demonstrated excellence off it. Pursuing Environmental Health Sciences Degree at Concordia, Bilassy has balanced academic commitments with her stellar athletic achievements. Her dedication and leadership on the curling team have not gone unnoticed, earning her the prestigious title of ACAC Women’s Curling Rookie of the Year.

Brenna Bilassy's exceptional rookie season has undoubtedly set a high standard for her future endeavors in the world of women's curling, and her achievements were celebrated by the ACAC community at last weekend’s championship.


Male Curling Rookie of the Year | Chase Lozinsky | NAIT Ooks:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Chase Lozinsky of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2023-24 ACAC Men’s Curling Rookie of the Year.

The NAIT Ooks men's curling team went 9-1 during regular season play. Lozinsky was a massive contributor to the team's success. He played an integral role in helping the team win the ACAC bronze medal and punch their ticket to the CCAA National Championship.

"Chase is a great addition to the team this year; as the rookie on a squad of returning players, he was an instant fit with the team. He always wants to do better to gain that extra edge on his opposition. Chase has been curling for 13 years, playing in many junior events and winning High School Provincials in 2018 with teammate Nic. We look forward to finishing off the season at CCAAs and continuing with Chase next season." said Head Coach Karynn Flory-Simmons.

The first-year Forest Technology student from St. Albert, Alberta, will play an integral role on the NAIT Ooks men's curling team as they head to Fredericton for the CCAA Nationals in March.

This prestigious award was recognized at the 2024 ACAC Curling Championship hosted by SAIT in Airdrie, Alberta.
