2024 ACAC Curlers of the Year

Edmonton, AB (February 26, 2024) – 

Female Curler of the Year | Cassidy Blair | Red Deer Queens:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Cassidy Blair of the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Mixed Curling team has been selected as the 2023/2024 ACAC Women’s Curler of the Year.

Blair and her team had an outstanding season. At the ACAC Fall and Winter Regionals, the RDP Mixed Curling team earned a 12-0 record, which was the only undefeated record among 18 teams in three divisions.


Then at the ACAC Curling Championships, Blair and her teammates ranked second (2-1) during round robin competition. With a victory in the opening draw of the playoff round, the RDP Mixed Curling team had an opportunity to compete for gold. Despite a good effort in the final, Blair and the RDP team picked up ACAC silver.


“Cassidy is well-deserving of the Women’s Curler of the Year Award. As a first-year student-athlete, Cassidy has demonstrated talent and leadership beyond her years,” says Brad Hamilton, Red Deer Polytechnic Curling Head Coach. “She has made an impact on her team, the RDP Curling program and league. Cassidy has done a great job of moving up to skip and leading her team to the final game at the ACAC Championships where they lost a tough one to Lakeland.”

In addition to receiving the prestigious ACAC Women’s Curler of the Year Award, Blair was also named to the ACAC Mixed Curling All-Conference team.


Lacombe’s Blair is enrolled in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program.


This prestigious award was recognized at the 2024 ACAC Curling Championships. SAIT hosted the event from February 23-25 at Airdrie Curling Club.


Male Curler of the Year | Sean Borkovic | Concordia Thunder:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Sean Borkovic of Concordia Thunder as the 2024 ACAC Male Curler of the Year.

Throughout the season, Borkovic showcased his skill and dedication, leading Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) to a commendable 3-2 record in Regionals #1 (Lakeland College). His consistent performance continued in Regionals #2 (NAIT), where he guided the team to another impressive 3-2 record, setting a strong foundation for success.

In the intense atmosphere of the ACAC Championships at SAIT, Sean's skill and leadership played a crucial role in CUE's 2-1 record. The team's silver medal achievement in the gold match against the RDP Kings highlighted Borkovic's impact on the team's overall success.

Athletic Director Nate MacLellan expressed his pride, stating, "Sean Borkovic's dedication and exceptional skill have made a significant impact on our team's success this season. We are incredibly proud of his achievements."

In addition to his outstanding performance in men's curling, Sean Borkovic, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Management. Hailing from St. Albert, AB, his commitment to academic excellence highlight the qualities that make him deserving of the ACAC Men's Curling Player of the Year award.
