Edmonton, AB (September 2, 2023) –

Male Rookie of the Year | HAYDEN PRINS | Concordia Thunder:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is delighted to announce that Hayden Prins of the Concordia Thunder has been named the 2023 ACAC Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year.

In his inaugural year with the Thunder Men's Golf Team, Hayden Prins displayed exceptional talent and adaptability on the course. Despite being a rookie, Prins made a significant impact, showcasing his potential and dedication.

Hayden's journey in the ACAC began with a promising performance at the North Regionals, where he secured 5th place, posting scores of 78 in Round 1 and 79 in Round 2. At the South Regionals, he tied for 6th place, recording scores of 80 and 79 in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively. His strong play continued at the ACAC Championships, where he achieved a 5th-place finish with an impressive scorecard: 77 in Round 1, 72 in Round 2, and an outstanding 70 in Round 3.

"Hayden Prins' debut season with the Thunder Men's Golf Team has been nothing short of impressive. His talent, dedication, and adaptability on the golf course are a testament to his potential as a rising star in collegiate golf. We're excited to witness Hayden's continued growth and contributions to the team in the coming years." – Thunder Athletic Director Nate MacLellan

Originally from Sturgeon County, AB, Hayden Prins has seamlessly transitioned into collegiate golf while pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Concordia University. His remarkable debut season and his ability to adapt to the competition have not only earned him the title of Men's Golf Rookie of the Year but have also laid a strong foundation for his future in the sport.

Female Rookie of the Year | TARYN SANDERSON | Medicine Hat Rattlers:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Taryn Sanderson of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers Female Golf Team has been named the 2023 ACAC Female Golf Rookie of the Year.

As a first-year student-athlete, Taryn has been impressive right out of the gate. In her first event at the North Regional in the ACAC, she finished in 6th place and was the 2nd-best scorer on our team. At her team’s home course at the South Regional, she came in 5th place and was again the second-best scorer on her team. At the ACAC Championships, she placed 6th and secured herself a ticket to nationals with her performance. This was her most consistent performance of the season, with only 1 stroke separating the three rounds.

Manager of Athletics & Recreation, Terry Ballard, adds, “Medicine Hat College and Rattlers Athletics are proud of Taryn for winning the 2023 ACAC Golf Female Rookie of the Year. Taryn had a solid season of ACAC Golf with the Rattlers and helped the Rattlers women’s golf team earn a silver medal at the Conference Championships. This has earned Taryn and teammate Libby Bourassa a trip to the 2023 CCAA Golf National Championships. This will be an exciting event for them."

Taryn is from Vulcan, AB, and is in her first year at Medicine Hat College, studying Criminal Justice.
