Hailey Somers, Lakeland Rustlers, Women's Basketball

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

After missing an entire season due to injury, Hailey Somers is having a picturesque final year of collegiate basketball.

The fifth-year guard from Regina, Saskatchewan helped the Lakeland Rustlers to their third ACAC Championship in four seasons. Friday evening she posted 11 points, 5 rebounds and a steal, while playing lockdown defence against a surging Clippers squad. In the gold medal game, she had another 12 points, adding 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist, while continuing to shine on the defensive end. She also went 6-6 from the free throw line.

Somers' play earned her a spot on the Tournament All-Star Team. She's now been an All-Star on two teams that have gone undefeated in ACAC play.

Between her on-court prowess, leadership in the locker-room and excellence in the classroom, Somers has made a lasting impression at Lakeland and in the ACAC.

Hailey Somers hails from Regina Saskatchewan, playing in her fifth year of eligibility and finishing a diploma in Business Administration at Lakeland College. She had previously completed her Bachelor of Science.
