ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Evan Meyer played a critical role for the Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team in their ACAC Championship win on the home court at the ACAC's Final Four.

Over the two-game weekend, Meyer recorded 38 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks, and one steal as the Huskies won a 93-83 semifinal against the SAIT Trojans and downed the St. Mary's University Lightning 94-79 in the Gold Medal game. His performance earned him Tournament Most Valuable Player honours.

In Friday's semifinal, Meyer recorded 20 points, going 8-for-12 (66.6%) from the field and making four of five free throw attempts. As the Huskies worked to hold the lead in the second half, Meyer contributed 14 of his team's 50 points.

Saturday, Meyer helped the Huskies secure their first championship in Men's Basketball with 18 points, one off the team lead on the day. He also added eight rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. In the first quarter, Meyer led his side in scoring with six of their opening 25 points.

Meyer, a Business Management student-athlete from Oshawa, Ontario is in his second year of eligibility and first year in the ACAC. In 18 games this season, Meyer averaged 13.2 points per game, as well as 6.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on a per game basis. His 55.4% field goal percentage ranked third in the entire conference during the regular season. His 24.8 minutes per game ranked fourth on the Huskies overall.

Up next for the Huskies is a trip to Sackville, New Brunswick for the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball National Championship from March 13-16. The Huskies will open up the tournament against the Camosun Chargers from the PACWEST Conference.
