Makenna Fitzgerald, SAIT Trojans, Women's Cross-Country

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Makenna Fitzgerald achieves a remarkable THREE-peat, securing her third consecutive first-place finish at the 2023 ACAC Women's Individual Cross-Country Championships.

Fitzgerald and the Trojans traveled to Lethbridge over the weekend to compete at Nicholas Sheran Park. Makenna completed her 6KM route in an impressive time of 21:43, surpassing the next competitor by over two minutes. Her outstanding pace of 3:37 per kilometer truly sets her apart from the competition. Despite the cold and wet conditions in Lethbridge, with a few challenging hills on the course, Makenna navigated the terrain with ease.

Her standout performance undoubtedly played a pivotal role in her team's victory, earning them the 2023 ACAC Women's Cross-Country Championship banner.

As she focuses on the upcoming National CCAA Championships in Truro, NS, Makenna is on the cusp of making history. If successful on November 11th, she will become the sole woman to secure three CCAA national banners, a testament to her exceptional talent and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Makenna Fitzgeralde hails from Kamloops, BC., and is currently in her fifth-year as a Diagnostic Medical Sonography student.

GAME ON: A GLIMPSE AHEAD
Makenna Fitzgerald's next destination is the 2023 CCAA National Cross-Country Championship in Truro, Nova Scotia. Having secured the last two national titles, we extend our best wishes to her as she aims to capture her third consecutive championship title. Makenna's pursuit of excellence in the sport is nothing short of remarkable, and we eagerly anticipate her performance in this prestigious event.
