Thunder Strikes Against the Huskies

EDMONTON, AB (January 20th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Keyano Huskies for a weekend series. To kick things off this Friday night, the women's team went back and forth, swapping the lead in each set and keeping fans on their toes. The gym got louder and louder as we moved towards an exciting fifth set, with Thunder's confidence roaring they won the battle 3-2.

In the first set, Concordia Thunder executed a great number of plays and due to that, they held the lead for most of the set. Although with the Keyano Huskies finding their footing later on, they came storming back late to win the first set 25-21. The second set was very evenly matched as each play rallied back and forth with some incredible saves. The Thunder had a three-point lead early on, but the Huskies change that with a seven point swing. CUE kicked it into high gear Thunder rallied late to tie the game and take a four-point lead of their own, winning the set 25-23 and tying the game 1-1. The Huskies came out of the gate strong in the third set. Gaining a lead of 11 points and eventually took the third set 25-15 and led the game 2-1. In the fourth set, each side was trading one or two-point leads throughout. The Thunder find solid footing and gain a four-point lead late to win the set 25-20 and tie the game 2-2. The final set was a nail-biter, the lead changed five times, but the Thunder come out victorious at 15-13, with the game ending 3-2.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #13 Raisa Stokes from the Huskies, with 30 digs in the game. From the Thunder, #13 Kara McIntyre with 10 kills, 2 service aces, and 18 digs. Tonight, was an exciting battle against the Keyano Huskies. We return back tomorrow at 1 and 3 PM to take on the Huskies for round two of the weekend series.
