Ooks Soar to Victory over the Wolves

On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks took on the visiting Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at the NAIT gymnasium. The Ooks ended the night winning 3-0 over the Wolves.

The Ooks started strong in the first with great blocks from number six, Chaljang Both and seventeen, Kayla Zazula. The Wolves took the lead with great offensive tips from number one Sierra LaValley. Ooks eventually took the lead leaving the Wolves scrambling to catch up. Ooks continued to leave the Wolves behind with a massive kill from number five, Karly Burkinshaw. The Wolves had started to gain momentum, managed to tie it up, and eventually took the lead from the Ooks. Following a timeout, the Ooks returned with a massive hit from Both. The Ooks take the lead back, and the Wolves call their second timeout of the set. The set was neck and neck; neither team wanted to give in. The Ooks took the set after a close battle. The Ooks took the first set 31-29 and led the match 1-0

In the second set, the Ooks took the lead early with great offensive plays from number five, Karly Burkinshaw and three Anika Dyck. The Wolves quickly took the lead with a great kill from number one Sierra LaValley and a huge block. The Ooks were struggling defensively to keep the Wolves at bay—the Ooks took the lead with a massive block from Burkinshaw and number eleven Mattea Calihoo. The Ooks continued to hold their lead with spectacular hits from Dyck and number seventeen, Kayla Zazula. The Ooks won the second set 25-21, leading the match 2-0.

The Ooks struggled defensively against the Wolves' hits at the beginning of the first set. The Ooks finally worked their way to tie up the score and take the lead. The Wolves began losing their momentum. With the Wolves struggling, they take a timeout. The Wolves momentum picked up with solid kills and defence to close the gap. The Ooks were going to keep this from happening as they started dominating both defensively and offensively to hold the lead, winning the set 25-15. The Ooks won the game 3-0 over the Wolves.

The players of the game were number fourteen, Hannah Zurakowski, from the Ooks and number sixteen, Jessie Kurek, from the Wolves.
