WVB| Kodiaks Fall Short in Extended 4th Set Comeback Dropping 2nd Straight Loss Against Visiting Keyano Huskies

January 13, 2023- The Kodiaks faced off against the Keyano Huskies in an interdivisional matchup to fight and secure a couple of crucial points in the 2nd half of their season.

The Kodiaks and Huskies both entered the match with the same goal which was to secure an extra 2 points to help better position themselves in their respective division as the race for the playoffs is not far out. The Huskies seemed to have control for the first portion of 1st set before the Kodiaks made a strong push and got ahead late in the set, the Kodiaks were very strong defensively while still maintaining a powerful attack line to secure the 1st set 25-22.

The Kodiaks looked to repeat the 1st set to give them the 2-0 lead, Keyano, however, stepped up to prevent the game from running away from them as Huskies Lauren Huntley took initiative with 6 kills and led the Huskies through a powerful 2nd set to tie the match 1-1 with a score of 25-16.

With the match tied at 1 set each, the Huskies and Kodiaks were searching for ways to grab control of the set to put them up in the match. The Huskies remained in front throughout the set despite the Kodiaks pushing back giving them a run for their money. Kodiaks Jamie Brown was destructive up at the net earning herself 4 kills and getting the Kodiaks in front late but was not enough to prevent the Huskies from fighting back to secure the 3rd set 25-23 for Keyano to put them up 2-1 with the chance to end the Kodiaks in the 4th.

The Huskies carried their momentum from the end of the 3rd set over and wasted no time gaining a strong lead over the Kodiaks. Lethbridge fought hard throughout the 4th to complete the comeback, but Keyano continued to be dominant despite a rocky finish and solidified their win taking the 4th set 28-26 and the game 3 sets to 1.
