Ooks Fall to Trojans

The NAIT Ooks placed the SAIT Trojans Friday night in the NAIT Gymnasium. The Trojans took home the win, with the match score being 3-1.

In the first set, the Trojans took an early lead; however, the Ooks weren't so easily left behind with some incredible offensive plays from number seventeen, Kayla Zazula. The Trojans didn't let up and held onto their lead with well-placed hits from number three, Taylor English. The Ooks slowly closed the gap with a great attack from number five, Karly Burkinshaw. The Ooks tied the game up and finally took the lead with a fantastic rally. They led the Trojans to take their first time out of the match to regroup. The Ooks continued to hold on to their lead, with number three, Anika Dyck making a great kill. The Ooks struggled to maintain their lead, with the Trojans tieing the match up and taking the lead with a killer block from numbers thirteen, Jordan Wallace and nineteen, Payton Van Driesten. Ooks called their first time out with the Trojans pulling ahead. Ooks managed to take the lead back with some incredible offensive plays. The set was neck and neck, but the Ooks held on to their lead, taking the first set with a score of 25-21.

The Ooks lead 1-0.

In the second set, the Trojans took the lead leaving the Ooks behind. Ooks slowly began to chip away at the Trojans' lead with some impressive defensive plays; however, the Trojans were not letting go of their lead so easily. With the Trojans up by five points, the Ooks called their first time out of the set. The Trojans had effectively shut down the Ooks hitters with a huge Middle block from numbers nineteen and six, continuing to leave the Ooks behind. Though the Ooks put up a valiant battle, the Trojans had effectively shut out the Ooks. Trojans took the set 25-18.

After the second set, the Trojans tie the game 1-1.

In the third set, Ooks took the lead early on; however, it was neck and neck with the Trojans just a little behind. Nonetheless, the Ooks manage to hold onto their lead with some great offensive plays from number eight, Charlotte Vandenelzen and thirteen, Jessica Zilinski. With the Ooks effectively keeping the Trojans at bay, the Trojans call a time out to come back and regroup. The Trojans finally took the lead with a great hit from number thirteen, Jordan Wallace; however, it was short-lived, with the Ooks taking it back. The Trojans weren't done and eventually took the lead; the Ooks continued to make great defensive plays, yet the Trojans managed to hold on and win the set 25-21

After the third set, the Trojans lead the game 2-1

In the fourth set, Trojans took an early lead Ooks weren't letting them get far ahead, managing to tie it up with massive kills from number eight and seventeen. Ooks took the lead and started to pull away from the Trojans. Ooks continued to pull ahead of the Trojans. Trojans slowly began to gain on the Ooks with some great offensive plays. Ooks held on to their lead with an incredible down-the-line hit from number eight, Charlotte Vandenelzen. Trojans tied up the match with a great kill from number nineteen, eventually taking the lead from the Ooks. Ooks managed to tie the game back up; however, the Trojans took it back with a massive back-row kill from number eight, Grace Coulter. The Trojans take the set 25-19.

The Trojans won the game 3-1.

The players of the game were number sixteen, Haley Sowell, from the Ooks and number four, Taryn Cockery, from the Trojans.
